Meeting November 3, 1997 Northern New Jersey A bountiful table of professional information is set to be served to members of the creative freelance community at the Thursday, November 20 meeting of the Self-employed Writers and Artists Network (SWAN). The "Profit from the Experience" meeting is designed to provide a wealth of collective insight from the membership on business practice standards. The meeting, which opens with a networking session at 7:30 p.m., will be held at the Bergen Museum of Art and Science in Paramus. Standards and Practices Committee Chairman Bruce Riccitelli will highlight the role the committee plays in assisting members to resolve business disputes. Riccitelli, who heads Creative Photography Unlimited in Union, will cover typical situations in which the investigative committee becomes involved, from unethical business practices and copyright infringements to contractual and payment disputes with clients and more. In addition, graphic designer Debra Kovacs of DK Graphics in Manalapan will review questions to consider before writing or signing a contract, along with the results of a survey of the membership on pricing and fees. Refreshments will be served. The meeting is free to SWAN members and $7.50 for non-members. SWAN, founded in 1984, is the regional business-to-business organization of freelance creative professionals, including writers, designers, illustrators, photographers, and multimedia producers.
